Speaking to CNBC, the US president said the military was “raring to go” if a peace deal was not reached before the temporary ceasefire expired on Wednesday.
Asked if he would continue the military campaign, Mr Trump said: “Well, I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with … But, you know, we’re ready to go. I mean, the military is raring to go.”
With the deadline fast approaching, a minister from Pakistan said Iran had not yet confirmed whether it would attend peace talks.
The US delegation, led by JD Vance, the vice-president, is due to depart for Pakistan for the second round of negotiations after talks last week failed to bring about a deal.
Sources told the Wall Street Journal on Monday that Iran would send a delegation, though those close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rejected “excessive” demands from the US and called for the end of the US navy’s blockade of Iranian ports.
