Defence would like to acknowledge the retirement of Jim McDowell from the Australian Public Service (APS) on April 11, 2025, and to thank Mr McDowell for his dedication to the role of Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment.
Mr McDowell joined Defence following his role of Chief Executive Officer at Nova Systems. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet for the Government of South Australia, where he both ran its core business and was the principal policy advisor to the Premier. From 2014 to 2018, Mr McDowell was a consultant with clients including the Department of Defence and Airservices Australia.
Defence has benefited from Mr McDowell’s deep understanding of complex program management at a national and international level, and extensive experience in engaging with stakeholders across a breadth of private and public sector organisations.
