Harris warns a second Trump term poses “profound threat” for vision of the nation

Vice President Kamala Harris warned Saturday that a second term for former President Donald Trump poses a “profound threat” to the vision of the nation.

While delivering remarks at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix Awards Dinner, Harris claimed Trump and his allies “intend to take our nation backward.”

“The CBC has always had a vision for the future of our nation, a future where we can see what is possible, unburdened by what has been, a future where we fulfill the promise of America, a promise of freedom, opportunity and justice, not just for some, but for all,” Harris said. “Today, that vision, our vision, is under profound threat while we move and fight to move our nation forward toward a brighter future.”

Harris railed against the former president’s policies, criticizing his inability to outline his plans for health care during Tuesday night’s debate.

We have a vision of our country where we understand that the access to health care should not be a privilege just of those who can afford it,” the vice president said, adding, “We actually have a plan for healthcare, not just concepts of a plan.”

She touted her plans to build intergenerational wealth, her economic agenda, and her determination to fight for reproductive freedoms, telling the CBC, “When you pass a bill to restore reproductive freedoms as President of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law.”

Harris also emphasized the stakes of the election, telling attendees, “The baton is in our hands.”

“I truly believe that America is ready to turn the page on the politics of division and hate, and to do it, our nation is counting on the leadership in this room,” Harris said.
