Israel hits Lebanon, Hormuz fears rise, Gulf states attacked

  • The International Energy Agency says it will release a record 400m barrels of crude oil in response to the disruption caused by the US-Israel war on Iran.
  • Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its navy fired on and stopped two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz after they ignored warnings.

Israel says it carried out deadly air strike on southern Lebanon

Israel’s military says its air force has carried out an air strike on a building near where its forces are operating in southern Lebanon, killing enemy fighters.

In a statement, it said its forces are also carrying out “targeted raids” in southern Lebanon as part of what it called a “forward defence operation”.

Soldiers recovered assault weapons, ammunition cartridges and “Hezbollah vests” in the raids, it said.

Trump claims war with Iran is ‘going great’

US President Donald Trump says the war with Iran could end “soon” claiming there is “practically nothing left to target”.

Speaking to US news outlet Axios, Trump said the war is “going great” and US forces have inflicted more damage than expected.

“We are way ahead of the timetable. We have done more damage than we thought possible, even in the original six-week period,” he said.

Critics, however, say Trump’s objectives in the war have shifted repeatedly, while opinion polls show many Americans oppose the conflict.
