Japan will compensate reserve Self-Defense Forces members who are self-employed or work freelance for wages lost while they are called up, part of Tokyo’s efforts to improve pay in the SDF and bolster its ranks.
Reserves will receive 34,000 yen ($227) per day in addition to their daily allowance to offset losses for being unable to work. If called up for defense deployment or disaster relief, the allowance will be paid for up to 90 days.
