Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that Washington continues to consider the Japan-administered Senkaku Islands as included under their bilateral security treaty, during a telephone conference on Friday.
This was their first talk since the inauguration of President Donald Trump on Jan. 20. They spoke for about 40 minutes, with discussions largely following the direction of Japan-U.S. security cooperation to date.
