The U.S. needs to have its big manufacturers such as General Motors and Ford Motor participate in defense production and broaden the industrial base to keep up with China, President Donald Trump’s nominee to be the Pentagon’s No. 2 said in a confirmation hearing on Tuesday.
Stephen Feinberg, co-founder and CEO of Cerberus Capital Management, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that more companies must be integrated into the defense industrial base and take on production, which is dominated by the five “primes” — Lockheed Martin, Boeing, RTX, Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics.
