Bereaved families at the site of the Jeju Air plane crash that killed 179 people called on Monday for the bodies of their loved ones to be promptly handed over, but authorities said that the release will take more than one week due to the extensive damage caused by the crash.
Jeju Air flight 7C2216, a Boeing 737-800, flew roughly five hours from Bangkok before it came down at Muan International Airport on Sunday after its landing gear failed to deploy. Upon hitting the runway, it traveled along the ground at high speed before crashing into a wall and bursting into flames. Only two of the 181 people aboard survived.
