Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te on Friday said his administration will kick off a broad initiative aimed at expanding investment and procurement in the U.S., as he looks to level out the two economies’ trade balance and mitigate pressure from his counterpart Donald Trump.
“Taiwan is an indispensable partner for the U.S. to rebuild its manufacturing sector and cement the country’s high-tech prowess including semiconductors,” Lai told reporters in Taipei after hosting a national security meeting Friday morning.
