Trump Returns to Pennsylvania as Biden Looks to Steady His Campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris and Jill Biden will also hold events in the battleground state after the president’s fiery speech in Detroit on Friday.

Former President Donald J. Trump will hold a rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday, returning to the campaign trail amid a continuing crisis in the Democratic Party over President Biden’s viability as a candidate, including his capacity to campaign vigorously against Mr. Trump. Vice President Kamala Harris, Jill Biden, the first lady, and other surrogates for Mr. Biden will fan out across the Midwest to campaign on the president’s behalf.

Mr. Biden, after delivering a fiery speech in Detroit on Friday — perhaps the most forceful display from the president since his State of the Union address in March — headed for his home in Rehoboth Beach, Del., for the weekend. Calls for him to end his re-election bid and make way for a younger candidate have continued, even as his campaign has insisted that, after two weeks of dissension within the party, Democrats must unite behind his candidacy to defeat Mr. Trump.
