Trump tells ABC News he thinks a winner will be declared Election Day

Former President Donald Trump said on Sunday he expects the winner of the presidential election to be declared on Election Day, according to ABC News.

Trump, who has been making unfounded claims about cheating in the 2024 election and has not conceded the 2020 election, was asked whether he thought there was any way he could lose.

“Yeah, I guess, you know,” Trump said. “I guess you could lose, can lose. I mean, that happens, right? But I think I have a pretty substantial lead. … Bad things could happen. You know, things happen, but it’s going to be interesting.”

Asked by ABC News when he plans to address the country on Election Day, he said, “I’ll be out there at the right time.”

Some background: In 2020, Trump prematurely declared himself the victor in the early morning of the day after the election, despite millions of outstanding ballots left to be counted in key states. In brief remarks from the East Room of the White House, Trump attacked the legitimate vote-counting efforts, calling it “fraud” with no basis. He then claimed he “did win” the election, despite the millions of votes that have yet to be counted.
